A man has been taken to hospital following an accident at Selby's largest power station.

It is understood that the worker fell into a pit, some ten feet deep, at the plant yesterday morning prompting the call to local fire and ambulance crews.

In a statement, plant operators Drax Group said, "A contract scaffolder was involved in an incident at Drax Power Station this morning. Drax first aiders arrived swiftly on the scene and the man has been taken to hospital for a full examination. As is the practice for all incidents, a full investigation is now in progress"

The man was taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
